Student housing in a university residence: Rent freezes for one year
In agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and with the aim of improving student life, the CROUS have just announced that the amount of rents in university residences will not be reassessed for one year.
Housing is often the main item of expenditure for students. This is why the CROUS (Centres Régionaux des Œuvres Scolaires et Universitaires), which manage a stock of 175,000 student housing units (rooms and studios), have decided not to increase rents in all their residences to promote students' purchasing power.
Attractive rents
"The tariffs charged by the CROUS are already extremely low compared to market prices," says the national operator. In the accommodation offered by the CROUS, a room costs a student an average of 100 euros per month, a studio of 18 m2 equipped, between 150 and 200 euros per month (without any other charge), once any housing subsidies have been deducted.
Significant housing subsidies
In France, students can benefit from significant housing subsidies managed by the CAF (Caisse d'Allocations Familiales). This is the case of the APL (Personalized Housing Assistance) which students, regardless of their nationality, can obtain according to resource conditions. Similarly, if the student needs a guarantor to obtain his or her accommodation, the State has set up a new system, the free Visale guarantee, which is a rental guarantee aid offered to all young people under 30 years of age, without any means test.
Support from Campus France
Campus France supports students by informing them of the many solutions to find accommodation and the main steps to take. Whether in the public or private sector, Campus France guides students through their research journey, from the university residence managed by the CROUS to apartments in the private park, from shared accommodation to intergenerational housing, including a simple room in a private home.
