French-Pakistani E-Higher Education and Research week 2021

Étudiants, Chercheurs

An Event to Enhance and Promote the French-Pakistani Academic, Scientific and Research Network.

This annual event dedicated to higher education and research sucessfully took place from 8th-11th March 2021.
Many French and Pakistani institutions are investing this time of exchange to promote their academic and scientific training in order to increase their international visibility and attract new students and teacher-researchers within their institutions.

The quantitative results of this 4th edition, which was held over 4 days, bear witness to this success despite the context of the health crisis and its consequences on the mobility of students and researchers:

- 19 French institutions registered for this event, including 8 engineering schools, 5 business schools, 1 art school, 3 joint research units in social sciences and 2 universities.
- 27 Pakistani institutions were mobilised, including 15 institutions dedicated to engineering sciences, 4 management institutes, 1 art school and 7 universities dedicated to the humanities

Ambassador of France to Pakistan and Executive Director Higher Education Commission Pakistan opened this event on 8th March.
The Ambassador emphasised that higher education and research are key elements of the cooperation strategy of this Embassy and that it is determined to strengthen its exchanges. In this regard, he underlined that 878 Pakistani students have had a mobility to France with an increase of more than 75% in 5 years of which 37% are female students.
The Executive Director of the HEC, thanked the Embassy for the organisation of this 4th edition. She reiterated the excellence of French institutions in the field of research and the opportunity to encourage the promotion of HEC scholarship programs to France for Pakistani students in Master and Doctorate programs of all disciplines.
She strongly hopes that France will continue to support Pakistan in the training of its youth, which contributes to the socio-economic development of the country.

This first day allowed the Cooperation and Cultural Action Department of this Embassy to present the Franco-Pakistani academic and scientific cooperation to the audience: scholarship programmes financed by the French government for Pakistani students (MOPGA, Excellence Master, Eiffel, Idex, Erasmus +, BID) and research (PHC Péridot, social and political sciences, archaeology) in which Franco-Pakistani teachers-researchers and doctoral students participate.

French-Pakistani research fellows from CNRS IRISA Rennes and Capital University of Sciences and Technology (CUST) were also invited, who presented their CHP research programme in the field of information sciences and energy efficiency "Optimization framework for future green wireless networks".
The importance of proposing more flexible modalities for the use of Peridot PHC funds, which can only be used for mobility in this difficult health context, and a more flexible fiscal calendar that would allow for better optimisation of project implementation, was highlighted.

The Ecole Centrale de Nantes and the Lahore University of Managament and Sciences (LUMS) presented their Erasmus + programme which aims to internationalise European and Pakistani universities. Synergies between Pakistani institutions in the process of being structured in the international field and links with the Franco-Pakistani economic fabric are among the actions to be carried out under this programme.
Finally, the President of the Pak France Alumni Association (PFAN) highlighted the actions of the latter (student tutoring, promotional events in the field of research and calls for applications for CHP, Erasmus +) to the student and researcher public.
The exchanges focused on the extension of the PFAN alumni network to the Erasmus + and Pakistani university alumni networks (NUST, QAU and others).
We also took this opportunity to coordinate our actions with the Education Project Officer of this Embassy who presented the French language training offered within the Alliances françaises and universities in Pakistan.
